Greeting from the President of JSID

Greeting from the President of JSID - Manabu Fujimoto, M.D., Ph.D.
Department of Dermatology, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University

I am very honored to succeed Prof. Kenji Kabahsima as the President of the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (JSID) in May 2023. I would like to do my utmost to develop JSID and dermatological research in Japan, and I sincerely ask for your continued support.

The International Societies for Investigative Dermatology meeting (ISID 2023), held in Tokyo in May 2023 under the leadership of Prof. Kabashima, was a great success with more than 2500 participants and more than 1800 abstracts from over 40 countries. ISID is based on its predecessor, IID (International Investigative Dermatology), but has been able to hold its first meeting in Japan to develop into a truly global society. As one of the organizers, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the members and participants. I would also like to thank the Korean Society for Investigative Dermatology (KSID), which co-hosted the meeting, the Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID), the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR), the Taiwanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (TSID), the Australasian Society for Dermatology Research (ASDR), the Chinese Society for Investigative Dermatology (CSID), and the Skin Research Society of Singapore (SRSS), as well as the sponsoring organizations. In particular, I would like to thank the international committee of ISID, the domestic steering committee members, and the many others who have generously contributed to the conference's success.

At ISID 2023, I believe that the Japanese community successfully demonstrated our presence in dermatological science to the world. However, we owe this to the efforts and contributions of our predecessors and thus must be considered a legacy of the past. To further develop dermatological research in Japan in the future, I would like the younger generation to experience the joy of unraveling scientific questions and the excitement and pleasure of discovering the truth. Just take a peek at our annual meeting. Also, consider participating in the Aoba Juku and Kisaragi Juku that JSID organizes yearly.

JSID aims to be a society where people from many fields involved in research in dermatology can interact. We seek to be an "open society" that promotes diversity within JSID and to serve as a forum where such collaborative research can occur.

ISID 2023 was also an excellent opportunity to reconnect with the world that the COVID-19 pandemic has fragmented. International perspectives and exchanges are also very important for science. We would like to promote the internationalization of our society more than ever.
